INDIVIDUAL GEAR

  1. Skis and Touring Bindings; For Snowboarders: Split Board
  2. Ski Poles with Powder Baskets; for snowboarders: collapsible
  3. Climbing Skins
  4. Plastic Scraper
  5. Avalanche Transceiver
  6. Probe
  7. Shovel
  8. Layered Ski/Snowboard Clothing (no Cotton!)
  9. Tuque and/or Helmet
  10. 2 pair gloves/mitts
  11. Goggles & sunglasses
  12. Headlamp with fresh batteries
  13. Personal snacks & lunch (Fat better than Sugar for staying warm)
  14. Water (with optional insulation, start with warm/hot)
  15. Backpack to carry above items
  16. Avalanche inclinometer APP for phone: Android or IOS (Steve’s Badass Inclinometer – about $5)
  17. Navigation APP (optional for AST 1, required for AST 2). KAC has an arrangement for 20-50% off 1-year or 5-year subscription with GaiaGPS at: https://www.gaiagps.com/discounts/#_r_keith99

GROUP GEAR (For AST1, instructor will provide.  For AST2 students, bring if you have items.)

  1. 1st Aid Kit
  2. Repair Kit (Bailing Wire, Zip Ties, Duct Tape, Tools, Spare Pole Basket)
  3. Navigation (Maps, Compass, GPS)
  4. Avalanche Science (Inclinometer, Snow Saw, Crystal Screen, Loop, Thermometer, Cord)
  5. Rescue (Rescue Toboggan or Bivy Sack or Space Blanket, Rope)

Missing something? Gerick Sports, Powderhound, Red Mountain are some of the local businesses that sell and rent gear.
